Fifth Class

Spinx the Bearded Dragon

Last week we had a visit from Spinx the bearded dragon. Spinx, owned by Kelsey, is only nine months old so he is still quiet young. His diet mainly consists of vegetables as he is still young. The children got to ask questions about Spinx and bearded dragons in general. We also learned that his tail is longer than his body! Have a look at him below.

Under the Hawthorn Tree

For the past few weeks, the pupils have been busy working on the novel 'Under the Hawthorn Tree' by Marita Conlon-McKenna. The novel, set during the time of the Great Famine in Ireland, tells of the story of three siblings on the search for their long lost aunts. The pupils enjoyed reading the novel and learning about the Famine. Some activities that we did to explore the novel included creating a new book cover, comparing characters in the novel, and a book review.

Scientists Secure Best Visual Display

Well done to our four Mini Scientists who won an award at the Grand Final of the Intel Mini Scientists!

To get to the final yesterday was a huge achievement. 8,000 students in 135 schools throughout the country took part in the Intel Mini Scientist competition this year. Only 28 projects made it to the final, incorporating 100 students.

The girls displayed their projects among the other 27 and explained it impeccably to all visitors and judges. In what was a tiring day, the girls really did their school proud!

Afterwards, the winners were called out at an awards ceremony. Imagine their delight when they were announced as the Best Visual Display of the entire competition!

Well done to all the girls on what was a tremendous achievement! Thanks also to all the parents, especially Janet who gave great assistance to the girls throughout the last few months.

Well done Anna, Ellen, Meadhbh and Shannon!

Oliver! Success

Our third and fifth classes put on their production of Oliver on Thursday, 1st February in Mullingar Arts Centre.

And what a treat they gave us!

In what was a superb production, we heard great songs, saw great acting performances, admired the costumes, the sets, the great work and preparation that had clearly gone into all the production and stood and clapped until our hands were sore!

The songs and perfomances will live long in the memory. Well done to all who were involved from Lorcán and his helpers to Miss O'Donnell and Mr. Conneely. And that's not without forgetting the children, all of whom were superb on the night!

Well done to all involved!

Finally, we have some footage of one of the songs - enjoy as Ronan shows us his glorious singing voice!
