Take 3 giant steps back from the basket, and throw the ball under-arm aiming into the basket. You get a point every time you get the ball into the basket. Then take 5 steps back and see how many points you can score now. Do this for 10 minutes. What was your total score?

Reading and Comprehension:

 >  Starlight - Unit 8B page 66 Read and complete the activities on page 67 A + B + C

Read the story ‘Dr Scorpio Strikes Again (Part 2)’

Here are some ideas for questions to ask

> Comprehension: visualising

Close your eyes and imagine you are Captain Blade, climbing the tower. It is hot;

flaming globes and robotic wasps are flashing past you. You can hear a terrible

buzzing all around. How do you feel?

> Vocabulary development The author said, ‘One prick from those deadly stingers and all would be lost’. The phrase ‘all would be lost’ is an expression, but what does it mean?

> Grammar: using an apostrophe for possession

Look at the words ‘Captain Blade’s sword’. The sword belongs to Captain Blade,

so we use an apostrophe. Can you fi nd another example in this text where an

apostrophe is used to show that something belongs to someone?

> Genre: narrative Narrative texts are written in the past tense. Can you name all the verbs in the past tense in the fourth paragraph?

> Vocabulary development: synonyms

Dr Scorpio appeared in a giant robot suit. Can you think of other words with a similar

meaning to the word ‘giant’?

> Grammar: conjunctions Look at the sentence ‘She knew it might mean the end for Goodville, but she couldn’t let Jamie die.’ Can you spot the joining word, or conjunction, that joins two sentences together to make this one long sentence?

> Grammar: exclamation marks

The sentence ‘We have failed!’ ends in an exclamation mark. Can you fi nd other

exclamation marks in this text? Why has the author used them?

*please take a photo of your work and send this on to me.
