Second Class

Term 3 Week 1

Term 3 Week 1 Mrs Tuite’s Class

(for Mrs Treadwell’s Class please see her webpage).

Welcome back! Hope you are all keeping well and enjoyed your Easter break. As the school closure has been extended we have changed the way we will communicate feedback to the children.  This week you are asked to e-mail me at the e-mail address on the home page. I will send you a permission slip and then a code to log into SEESAW a digital learning hub. When using seesaw tasks will be broken down each day.

If you can’t access seesaw please continue to check this webpage. I will list the work for the week below for those unable to use seesaw. I will indicate beside each item if it needs to be sent to me for feedback. If using seesaw you can submit it there, if you are not using seesaw please email the work to me and I will respond: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

As always please keep to your child’s pace and don’t feel under pressure to complete all activities.

**If you haven’t done so already I would recommend you create an account with Folens Online. This book publisher has most of the schemes we use and they have interactive games which the children enjoy and are used to using in school.

 Reading and Comprehension:

Ø  Starlight - Unit 6B page 50 Read and complete the activities on page 51

On page 50 you can ask these questions.

Comprehension: clarifying

You need 125g of plain fl our for this recipe. The ‘g’ stands for grams. We measure how light or heavy something is in grams or kilograms.

 Vocabulary development: prefixes

The word ‘preheat’ is made up of the prefix ‘pre’ and the root word ‘heat’. When we put ‘pre’ in front of a word, it means ‘before’. ‘Preheat’ means to heat up the oven before we begin to put the ingredients together. What do you think the words ‘prepay’ and ‘preschool’ mean?

Genre: procedure: command/bossy verbs

A procedure uses command or bossy verbs. ‘Preheat’ and ‘weigh’ are examples from step 1 and step 3. Can you find other examples of command verbs in this text?

 Phonological awareness: suffixes

The word ‘lightly’ is made up of the root word ‘light’ and the ending ‘ly’. Can you find other words in this procedure that end in the suffix ‘ly’?

 Comprehension: making connections

Does this text remind you of anything? Baking at home or eating a delicious dessert?

Discuss this with a parent or other member of the family.
