Official Opening
The Official Opening of Kildalkey N.S. took place last Friday, 28th September.
On what was a beautiful September day, the key was turned in the old school by Paddy Corrigan, the oldest surviving past pupil.
The school then marched behind four drummers accompanied by the sixth class providing some colourful scenes!
Bishop Deenihan then blessed the new school and shortly after, Minister Bruton cut the ribbon signalling that the new school had been officially opened!
Speeches were held in the hall, with addresses by the chairperson of the Board of Management Colin Finnegan, Bishop Deenihan, 6th class student Ellen Johnston, Principal Mr. Fox, the chairperson of the Parents' Association Shiofra Keogh and of course, the Minister for Education and Skills Mr. Richard Bruton T.D. The ceremony was punctuated throughout by beautiful songs from the choir before being closed with some gorgeous Irish dancing from Chanel, Chloe and Jennah.
Thanks to one and all for their help on what was a momentous day for the school. It is a day that will live long in the memory and an historic one for all both affiliated with Kildalkey N.S. and with Kildalkey in general. The school, particularly the Hall, looked majestic with some beautiful art designs on display. The choir were superb with thanks to the teachers in charge and thanks also to Miss O'Sullivan for her beautiful rendition of 'A Mhuire Mháthair' at the old school. There are too many to thank to list everyone but thanks to all who added in any way to the day!
