Senior Infants

Happy New Year from Senior Infants!

This year got off to a busy start with the arrival of Travelling Ted! Ted will be accompanying the boys and girls from Senior Infants home over the coming months. Already he has been very busy and getting up to lots of mischief!

This month we explored the work of the artist Piet Mondrian and the children then created their own Mondrian pieces!

One of our topics in Maths this month was time. We each had our own clocks and we really enjoyed working at group activities while learning how to tell the time! One of our SESE topics was Sound. We had great fun designing and creating our own instruments and even played them in our very own band!! Here are some of our displays.

This month one of our topics was Winter and the Antarctic. We learned about the Emperor Penguin and watched lots of videos about them, including an Emperor chick hatching from an egg! We then created a fact file and painted our very own penguins. We also painted a Winter snow globe scene which made a lovely window display.

We were also very busy this month preparing for our Christmas play Whoops-a-Daisy Angel and we finally got to perform it for our families on !8th December!

November - Kandinsky Art

During the month of November we explored some of the works of Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky. We then painted our own concentric circles which made a very colourful display! We also experimented with a variety of bottle tops to create our Kandinsky-inspired prints.

Our learning wall this month-we love our witches and wizards hats!

We talked lots about Autumn this month; we went on a nature walk around our school identifying signs of Autumn and looked at lots of different types of leaves. We looked at the poem Dingle Dangle Scarecrow and made our very own scarecrows!Scarecrows 1

One of our topics in maths this month was 2d shapes and we were very creative with our 2d shape monsters!

For the month that's in it, we enjoyed learning all about bats! We learned that the saying 'as blind as a bat' has no truth and really enjoyed painting our bat pictures for Hallowe'en!

Welcome to Senior Infants!

We've been very busy in Senior Infants during the month of September. One of our topics was 'school' and we worked in small groups to create a mini-project on our school community. One of our stories for the month was Elmer and we really brightened up our hallway with our sponge Elmer paintings.
