While theirs wasn't picked to go through to the Grand Final, they can be very proud of their hard work as they were up against mainly fifth and sixth classes. Well done to Shannon and Ellen on all their hard work!!

Intel Mini Scientist Competition 2016

This year, the fourth and fifth classes again entered the Intel Mini Scientist Competition.

Lots of fun was had in preparing the different projects for the competition, which was held on the 30th of October.

In total, there were 21 different projects between the two classes.

The judges were very impressed on the day with the effort gone into creating the projects, the variety of projects, the visual displays on show and the level of knowledge of the children.

Efforts from fourth class included looking at water pollution, looking at how piers work, creating electricity from lemons and apples, creating rockets, looking at how volcanoes work, how avalanches work, looking at electricity, the effect of sound waves, how parachutes work, to name but a few!

We had most of the classes in the school come up to take a look along with many parents and relatives! We had huge crowds throughout the day.

Eventually, out judges viewed all the projects and deliberated.

They gave the fourth class recommendation to Anna and Meadhbh for their project on water pollution.

The judges then revealed the overall winner between the two classes - Shannon and Ellen's project on 'Understanding how to Power Light'!

All the particpants got a goodie bag from Intel and the two girls will now represent Kildalkey in the regional final in Intel on Thursday, December 8th!

Well done to all involved. Thanks to Intel for their generosity and to the judges for taking the time to come out and view the projects. Best of luck to Shannon and Ellen in the regional final.
