Sixth Class

Intel Exhibition

On Friday, 10th December, Cian, Ciarán and Evan headed to the Intel campus in Maynooth to take part in the Intel Mini Scientist Regional Finals.

They displayed their booklet and experiment along with all the other schools. On what was a great day, they got to see many of the different science experiments that other schools had performed.

Exhibition2

The judges were very impressed with their project and though they didn't win this year, the fact that they are only in fourth class means that they have two more years to perfect their Science techniques for next year!

Exhibition1

They also got to see a man from RTE demonstrate different experiments as well! Thanks again to Miss Pykett and Seamus for accompanying the three scientists!

Intel Mini Scientist

The Intel Mini Scientist Competition was held in Kildalkey N.S. on Wednesday, 25th November.

MiniScientist6

The fourth and fifth class students had been working extremely hard for several weeks to get their projects finalised and they looked great!

MiniScientist8

We had many parents, classes and judges in looking at the various projects. They all agreed that the projects were all of a very high standard and all the students deserved great praise for all their hard work! We had several great projects on electricity, wind turbines, cars, mobile phones, water filtration, lip balms and many more. Aoife even brought in her cat as part of her project!

Finally the judges viewed all the projects and deliberated and decided that in fourth class, the water filtration project by Alex, Arvid, Ben and Cian was second and the Wind Turbine project by Cian, Ciarán and Evan was first.

MiniScientist17

In fifth class, the project showing how light travels in a straight line by Chloe and Sarah was second with the mobile phone study by Brandon, Gareth, Ryan and Sam was first.

MiniScientist16

The judges then chose the Wind Turbine project as the overall winner!

MiniScientist18

Well done to all involved on such great work!

We can't wait to see the finished results! Thanks to Mrs. Reynolds who came in and showed us how to dye the various fabrics!!

Intel Mini Scientist Competition

As the class is gearing up for the Intel Mini Scientist competition next week, we had a visit from Philip who works in Intel.

Philip showed us what was involved with preparing our experiments for the competition, what Intel does and how we should go about displaying our projects!

He then showed us what they wear in Intel and Ciarán got to wear the gear!

November13

Lucky Ciarán!

Thanks again to Philip who brought in some great prizes for the class as well! We're looking forward to the judging of the Mini Scientist competition on Wednesday, 25th November.

Science Fair

The fourth class today took part in a Science Fair in School Two as part of Science Week.

They looked at many different experiments such as balancing over our centre of gravity, rainbow spinners, dancing raisins, why oil and water won't mix, how much air our lungs can hold, mirror writing, the reaction of water mixing with surface area, building simple circuits etc.

Great fun was had with the experiments and the students learned a lot about science in the meantime!
