Boys Retain Division One Hurling Title

Huge congratulations are due to the boys who retained their Division One Hurling crown.

Champs

Having won only their second ever Division One title last June, they qualified for the final by topping the group, beating Trim, Dunboyne and Cannistown on the way. They defeated each team twice. Last Saturday, 22nd October, they took on St. Michael's of Trim.

The first half was an entertaining affair. Kildalkey took an early lead through points from Charlie and James C. However, Trim then took the lead with a well taken goal of their own and when they knocked over a point to leave the score 1-1 to 0-3, it looked like a close game was in store. However, it was then that the Kildalkey boys showed their mettle. With Brian and Cian prominent in midfield, the platform was set for a blistering period of 15 minutes in which Kildalkey stormed ahead. Superb points from Brian, Cian and James along with goals from Brian left Kildalkey in an unassailable lead of 4-7 to 1-2.

The second half saw Kildalkey holding onto the lead and soaking up all Trim had to throw at them. Sterling defensive work from the two Seáns, along with Brandon, Thomas, James and Jamie K, meant Trim were unable to breach the defense enough to trouble Kildalkey. Frees from Brian extende Kildalkey's lead and though Trim scored a superb goal from a free, late goals from Kildalkey meant the cup was heading back to Kildalkey with the final score reading 7-9 to 2-3.

Sam and Brian were presented with the cup afterwards and made two excellent speeches. Jacinta had organised food in the Snug House, courtesy of Rossis - sincere thanks to Rossis' Chippers, the Snug House and the Village Store in Kildalkey for their extremely generous donations for the presentations yesterday. It was greatly appreciated by all the players. Thanks too to Jacinta for organising the presentation and finally thanks to all the parents who offered lifts throughout the year.

Well done to all!

Best of luck to all Kildalkey teams this weekend

Best of luck to all Kildalkey teams this weekend.

First off on the Saturday is the Allianz Cumann na mBunscol final between Kildalkey N.S. and St. Michael's N.S., Trim. Having won the final in 2016 for only the second time ever, this is a great chance to retain the title. Trim beat Kildalkey in the final in 2013, 2014 and 2015 before Kildalkey finally won the title last June. The game throws in at 1.00 and we wish the hurlers the best of luck in that final.

Then, on the Sunday, Kildalkey minors take on Trim in the minor A final in Páirc Tailteann to try win their first A title in 68 years. This current minor team has many school representatives on it with the Kildalkey N.S.'s winning school team of 2012 being well represented. Captains that day Brín and Even both play as do many of that starting team.

Well done Evan!

Well done to Evan Geoghegan from our Hurling team last Spring.

As a result of the boys winning the Mini 7s last year, Evan was picked to play in Croker Park. By the luck of the draw, he was selected to at the All Ireland final!

Wearing the Kilkenny jersey, Evan played in front of 80,000 people and looked very comfortable in Croke Park!

Well done to Evan on a great performance and hopefully it won't be his last time playing in Croke Park!

3rd and 4th Class Hurling Match v Ballivor

Well done to our third and fourth class hurlers who played Ballivor N.S. in Ballivor last Thursday 20th October.

In what was a very tight and skilful affair, Kildalkey held the advantage at half time with goals from Billy and James meaning they went in leading 2-0 to 0-1.

Ballivor narrowed the deficit in the second half with a well taken goal and some frees. But Kildalkey looked to have regained the advantage when Billy scored again. However, a thrilling finish saw a Ballivor goal in the last minute leave the final score 2-3 to 3-0.

Well done to both teams on a great game!

3rd/4th Class Match v Baconstown

Our third and fourth class boys took on Baconstown recently in a challenge match.

baconstown3  Played in glorious sunshine, the two teams had a great battle in Baconstown. Thanks to some superb frees from Cian and a brilliant score from play, Kildalkey lead three points to no score at half time.

The second half was a more open affair. Even though Kildalkey got some brilliant goals from Cian and James, three goals from Baconstown won the match.
