Work Schedule 20th April-24th April

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome back! I hope you are all keeping well, and I hope you all enjoyed the nice weather over the Easter break. As we all continue with social distancing school staff will be starting to use the Seesaw app in order to allow two-way communication between student and teacher. We understand that some may not be able to access the app so I will still upload a weekly work list on this website.

Again, I would like to remind parents that it is important to go with your own child’s pace of learning. Do not feel under pressure to have all the work complete each week.

Also, a reminder of useful websites Folens, Twinkl and Grow in Love. Login and registration details here:

Twinkl: IRLTWINKLHELPS www.twinkl.com

English

Oral Language

Keep quizzing your children about this week’s story in starlight to reinforce their understanding of the story ‘Save our Sanctuary!’. This can be done as you read through the story and after every page. Students could also look up the tricky words in bold as dictionary work.

Folens online have a poster that accompanies each Unit. You could have a look at the poster for this week which is Poster 14 ‘Injured Creatures’ and have a go at answering the questions after listening to the story (Starters or Flyers) which accompanies the poster. If you copy and paste the link below when you are logged into folens online you should be able to find the poster.

Oral Language and Spelling Games

These are a few games we use in class as warm up activities and because they are good fun.

·       Stop the Bus

·       Dictionary game: You read a definition from the dictionary and the other person must write down the word that matches the definition.

·       Name it game: Give your child a topic and have them name as many things associated with that topic in 1 minute. Give them another topic and try to beat your score.

Maths

Here is a link to the answer sheets for the Planet Maths textbook if students wish to correct their work.

Area

This week we will be focusing on Area. Here is a link to a short video to get you started on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_uKKl8R1xBM

Here is a link to an area game that can help practice building an understanding of area in shapes, pictures and patterns: https://phet.colorado.edu/sims/html/area-builder/latest/area-builder_en.html

Gaeilge

Folens have great resource to help consolidate and reinforce learning for topics covered in Abair Liom chapter this week which is ‘Lá sa Pháirc’. If you copy and paste the link below into the search bar when you are logged into Folens online, you should be able to access the poster and games to help with vocabulary and stories. https://www.folensonline.ie/home/library/programmes/abair-liom-3rd-class/resources/

Duolingo is also great for the revision of simple phrases as Gaeilge for students and the whole family. Encourage students to say the phrases out loud as they progress through the stages: https://www.duolingo.com/
